Redevelopment of the ringroad south of Brescia and of the provincial roads SP103 “Cassanese”, SP14 “Rivoltana” and of the bypass of Liscate.

The project

The Company was responsible for the executive project related to the motorway link between Brescia – Bergamo – Milan (abbreviated BreBeMi). The four roads have an overall development plan of about 15 km inside the area of Milan and Brescia with 11 motorways and a highway junction. Beside the Liscate bypass, existing roads inserted in a densely urbanized area have been upgraded. The upgrade of S.P. 14 “Rivoltana” and of S.P. 103 “Cassanese” will allow an easier connection between the future External East side Ringroad and the center of Milan. The upgrading of the highway south of Brescia will instead increase the capacity of the existing road by increasing the number of road lanes in each direction of travel. Numerous major works have been developed among which, worthy of mention, is the artificial tunnel of Pioltello developed to about 700 m. and the numerous viaducts made of pre-stressed reinforced concrete that permit the crossing over of junctions present along the road layout. The Executive project does not differ much from the final one; CIPE requests were implemented, and the project was developed with particular attention to the inclusion of environmental works not only with regard to the green but also to the acoustics. The development of BreBeMi will last 40 months: cars will start circulating in 2012, traffic is forecast to reach around 60,000 vehicles per day resulting in a significant relief of traffic congestion on other roads. The average speed will increase from 23 km/h to 72 and the entire work, with its 62.1 km, will cross 43 municipalities in five cities (Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona and Lodi). The motorway route will have two lanes for each side (with a predisposition for a third one) and in addition an emergency lane in the section between Brescia and Treviglio (BG), and three lanes plus the emergency one from Treviglio to the junction to the future “ERM” (external east side ringroad of Milan).

Technical difficulties

Nowadays the market is asking designers to do their work in even shorter time; Prost, with its intuitive interface and its reliability, allows you to do just that. The construction of the planimetric axis and profile is similar to many other software, but the structure and management of the sections are unique. Any variation of the elements of the platform can be managed graphically and parametrically allowing incredible flexibility. In many batches of BreBeMi, for example the high aquifer has involved the insertion of hanging ditches. By ProSt has been possible to change the bottom of the ditch, and the height of the side independently from each other and the same in according of the progressive. The project plan generated automatically by the software requires a minimum of editing work which in most cases result in the management of connection points between roads and major works. I will finish with a recent story regarding the site 0M “Rivoltana”. In the last few days before the completion of the work, the TEEM designers told us of the need to modify the portion of the roundabout on the Provincial Road n. 39, one of the points in common to both projects; it was possible to guarantee the delivery time of the project thanks to the management of the intersection of Prost that is unique in its kind and allows simultaneous control of all axes afferent to the junction.
